CONGRATULATING Jack McMahon upon the occasion of
his induction into the SUNY Orange Colt Athletic
Hall of Fame on November 12, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Jack McMahon upon the occasion of his induction into the
SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame; this momentous occasion was
celebrated on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Kuhl's Highland House,
Middletown, New York; and

WHEREAS, Few names are more synonymous with Orange County Community
College (SUNY Orange) than that of John J. "Jack" McMahon; and

WHEREAS, From his days as a student at the college, through his time
on the school's administrative staff to tours with the Alumni
Association and Board of Trustees, Jack McMahon has devoted boundless
energy and unwavering commitment to the advancement of SUNY Orange; and

WHEREAS, A 1953 graduate of SUNY Orange, Jack McMahon went on to
earn a degree from Hamilton College in 1955; and

WHEREAS, Jack McMahon returned to SUNY Orange in 1965, as its first
public information officer; in 1970, he became assistant to the
president and taught English in the college's continuing education
division; and

WHEREAS, After leaving SUNY Orange in 1983, Jack McMahon became
assistant to the president of Ottaway Newspapers, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Jack McMahon was appointed to SUNY Orange's Board of
Trustees in 1984; he subsequently became the first alumnus elected to
chair the Board, where he served five terms before retiring as a trustee
in 2005; and

WHEREAS, In addition, he was co-chair of the college's highly
successful Cornerstone Capital Campaign from 1992 to 1994, and chaired
it's 50th Anniversary celebration in 2000-01; and

WHEREAS, Athletes such as Jack McMahon provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Jack McMahon for
his extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to his
skill, dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Jack McMahon upon the occasion of his induction into the
SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame on November 12, 2016; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jack McMahon.
