HONORING the Greater Olean Area Chamber of
Commerce upon the occasion of its 50th Annual
Clambake
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
acknowledge certain exemplary organizations that strive to provide
business opportunities and economic development to their communities
within this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce upon the occasion of its 50th
Annual Clambake; and
WHEREAS, The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce was created at
the chamber board level as a way to gather members together in a casual
atmosphere and celebrate the traditional start of summer in the
community and thank its chamber members; since its inception, the board
designed a Chamber Events Committee to oversee the annual event; and
WHEREAS, One of the originators of the Clambake and former Chamber
Board Director, Dick Barie, was instrumental in the creation of the
clambake event and was a member of the Committee for more than 30 years;
and
WHEREAS, The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Clambake
was held at the Castle Inn and Restaurant until the mid-1990s; it was
moved to War Veterans Park for about 10 years, then to Premier Banquet
Center, and then, Good Times Events Center; two of the clambake years,
the event was held in conjunction with The History Channel Great Race;
and
WHEREAS, The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Clambake
averages around 550 members and guests, however for two years attendance
reached 800, and two other years more than 700; the event provides a
great opportunity to network with new chamber members and catch up with
current members; the event offers music, fine food, prizes, and fun for
all families; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate
milestones in the histories of certain exceptional organizations in this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce upon the occasion
of its 50th Annual Clambake; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce.
