HONORING Donald Kreger upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Career Achievement
Award by the Police Benevolent Association of New
York State on May 1, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
merit the respect and admiration of their community for their exemplary
contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Donald Kreger upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Career Achievement Award by the Police Benevolent Association of New
York State celebrated at an Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, in
Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in North Tonawanda, New York, Donald Kreger enjoyed a
long and distinguished career working for various colleges and
universities throughout the State of New York for 35 years; and
WHEREAS, From 1982-2010, Donald Kreger served as an Investigator
with the New York State University Police at the University at Buffalo;
in this capacity, he performed general crime prevention patrols and
traffic control; investigated criminal, traffic, safety and service
complaints; and enforced state, local, and university laws, rules and
regulations; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Donald Kreger was instrumental in
making many positive changes to the Department; through his tireless
efforts, legislation was passed granting SUNY officers full police
officer status in 1999, and subsequently, SUNY Public Safety officially
became the New York State University Police; and
WHEREAS, Donald Kreger served as a campus union representative at
both SUNY Geneseo and University at Buffalo under American Federation of
State, County and Municipal Employees, Council 82; he also held the
title of President for the New York State University Police from
1990-1999, representing 500 State University Police officers,
investigators and civilian dispatchers at New York's 29 state-operated
campuses; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; and
WHEREAS, It is the further sense of this Legislative Body that those
who enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long
and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Donald Kreger upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Career Achievement Award by the Police Benevolent Association of New
York State on May 1, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Donald Kreger.
