HONORING Nancy Ackerman upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Yellow Rose Award by
the Zonta Club of Hamburg and Orchard Park
WHEREAS, From time to time, this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Nancy Ackerman upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Yellow Rose Award by the Zonta Club of Hamburg and Orchard Park; and
WHEREAS, New York State is home to countless women, strong and
colorful threads vital to the fabric of our rich heritage, who have and
continue to contribute to the advancement of our culture through their
traditional and non-traditional roles in society; and
WHEREAS, The Zonta Club, an international organization of
professional women who work to advance the status of women through
service and advocacy, sets aside March 8th of each year as Yellow Rose
Day, to honor the accomplishments of women worldwide; and
WHEREAS, The Zonta Club of Hamburg and Orchard Park takes this
opportunity to honor women whose courage, determination and dedication
have made a difference in the lives of others within the community and
beyond; Nancy Ackerman is truly deserving of this prestigious award; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Ackerman, affectionately known as Nan to her friends
and family, has served on the Orchard Park Town Board, and helped
establish the Orchard Park Youth Court; she has also been a vital member
of the boards of the Orchard Park Symphony Orchestra, the town's Pride
Committee, the League of Women Voters, the Erie County Sex Abuse Task
Force and the Erie County Child Abuse Center, as well as a Directorship
at the Child and Adolescent Treatment Center; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nancy Ackerman upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Yellow Rose Award by the Zonta Club of Hamburg and Orchard Park;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nancy Ackerman.
