LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor
Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim November 15, 2018, as
America Recycles Day in the State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to set aside days
in the State of New York which recognize the importance of practicing
sound environmental procedures, protecting our precious resources, and
preserving our natural environment; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim November 15, 2018, as
America Recycles Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with the
observance of National America Recycles Day; and
WHEREAS, Since 1997, communities across the country have come
together on November 15th to celebrate America Recycles Day, a day which
was created to raise awareness about recycling and the purchasing of
recycled products; and
WHEREAS, Over the last 30 years, the national recycling rate has
increased, and as of 2017, the recycling rate was 34%; and
WHEREAS, More than a celebration, America Recycles Day is the only
nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling
programs in the United States; and
WHEREAS, America Recycles Day serves as a day to inform and educate
the community about the importance of recycling; and
WHEREAS, This day also draws together neighbors, friends and
community leaders in an effort to get them excited about what can be
accomplished when we all work together; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York, in concert with the national and
global community, should not only set goals to recycle, but also set
goals on how to achieve the reuse of components of seemingly obsolete
objects; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim November 15, 2018, as
America Recycles Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
