COMMENDING Dr. Diane B. Call upon the occasion of
her retirement after more than 40 years of dedicated
service to Queensborough Community College in
Bayside, New York

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this
great State; and

WHEREAS, The result of many individual efforts, the excellence and
success of Queensborough Community College is due in large part to the
efforts of Dr. Diane B. Call; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Dr. Diane B. Call upon the occasion of her retirement after more
than 40 years of dedicated service to Queensborough Community College in
Bayside, New York; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Diane B. Call holds a Doctor of Education degree in
College and University Administration, a Master's degree in Community
College Administration and a second Master's degree in Student Personnel
Administration, all earned from Teachers College, Columbia University;
she furthered her education by obtaining a Certificate in Curriculum
Development from Harvard University, School of Education; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Diane B. Call was appointed President of Queensborough
Community College in January of 2013; her remarkable career has spanned
four decades at both Queensborough and The City University of New York
(CUNY), holding positions that have encompassed virtually all major
areas of administration and academics at Queensborough; and

WHEREAS, As Provost, Dr. Diane B. Call led the Academic Affairs
Division to create a student-centered learning environment in
collaboration with the faculty and Student Affairs colleagues through
curriculum and pedagogical innovations, academic enrichment activities
such as undergraduate research, as well as instructional support and
student service programs; and

WHEREAS, Among her many outstanding achievements are programs for
the recruitment and retention of faculty and a faculty development
program for their engagement in a variety of teaching modalities, high
impact activities, e-learning, academic leadership and pedagogical
research in community college teaching; her partnership with Student
Affairs led to the implementation of the Freshman Academies for all
full-time, first-time freshmen, and the establishment of an assessment
protocol to measure the success of the initiative on student learning
outcomes; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Diane B. Call also served as an Adjunct Professor at
Long Island University, C.W. Post, Graduate School of Education; an
Adjunct Associate Professor at Queensborough Community College,

Department of English; and Full Professor in Student Personnel Services;
and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, Dr. Diane B. Call instituted the
Instructional Support Services Center and Learning Lab and has led
Admissions Services, Skills Assessment Testing, Academic Advisement, the
Freshman-Year Program, College Discovery and CSTEP; she also
consolidated Tutorial Services and the Writing Center, substantially
increasing the number of students served; and

WHEREAS, In addition to these substantial roles, Dr. Diane B. Call
has served as a member of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee of
the College of Aeronautics (now Vaughn College); a Consultant to the
United States Department of Education, Higher Education Programs'
Division of Institutional Development; and Consultant to the New York
City Public Schools on Health Occupation Vocational Programs; and

WHEREAS, Moreover, she was a member of the CUNY Welfare Advocate
Council and was a Project Participant for Change and the New Jersey
Community College: the Faculty Perspective, The Center for Community
Colleges, Teachers College, Columbia University; and

WHEREAS, A caring, competent and committed leader, Dr. Diane B.
Call's character and integrity are the hallmarks of her life and work as
an educational leader, a community volunteer and as a person; and

WHEREAS, The Queens community is indeed fortunate and blessed to
have had such a dedicated and respected educational leader; her wisdom
and contributions to Queensborough Community College have truly made a
difference in the lives of those lucky enough to have worked with her;
and

WHEREAS, A significant contributor to education in New York State,
Dr. Diane B. Call has continually demonstrated an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered at for
the benefit of its faculty and students, as well as for the entire
community; and

WHEREAS, In completing her service as President, Dr. Diane B. Call
leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; she leaves behind a
legacy to the students of Queensborough Community College and to the
residents of the Queens community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Diane B. Call upon the occasion of her retirement, and to
wish her continued success in all of her future endeavors; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Diane B. Call.
