HONORING Carol and Dennis Fitzgerald upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the
12th Annual Mary G. Breslin Volunteer Service Award
by the LaSalle School on March 8, 2017

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Carol and
Dennis Fitzgerald upon the occasion of their designation as recipients
of the 12th Annual Mary G. Breslin Volunteer Service Award by the
LaSalle School to be celebrated at an Awards Ceremony on Wednesday,
March 8, 2017 at the LaSalle School in Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and
serving can be sustained and strengthened; and

WHEREAS, Mary Breslin, the award's namesake, exuded a devotion and
energy for volunteerism, and in her own kind and soothing manner, had
taught others that service is the epitome of success; and

WHEREAS, Carol and Dennis Fitzgerald share a long history with the
Breslin family; Mary G. Breslin was Carol's gym teacher in grade school,
and both Carol and Dennis attended Vincentian Institute and Albany High
School with members of the Breslin clan; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Dennis and Mike Breslin worked together
at the Capital District Transit Authority (CDTA) and Dennis served on
the Airport Authority during Mike's tenure as Albany County Executive;
and

WHEREAS, Both Dennis and Carol Fitzgerald have been dedicated to
their communities and have made it their mission in life to help where
they can; Carol Fitzgerald spends much of her time volunteering with the
Capital Region Garden Club and on historic building preservation; Dennis
Fitzgerald volunteers at Habitat for Humanity and the New York State
Public Transportation Safety Board; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Dennis Fitzgerald has served on the boards of
the Albany International Airport and St. Catherine's Center for Children
and Families, acted as a coach in labor relations at Siena College and
volunteered at Colonie's Pruyn House; he was also a founding director of
the Albany Police Athletic League; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by this
couple for the benefit of others which Carol and Dennis Fitzgerald have
displayed throughout their lives; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of a community and have shown a long
and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recogntition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Carol and Dennis Fitzgerald upon the occasion of their designation
as recipients of the 12th Annual Mary G. Breslin Volunteer Service Award
by the LaSalle School on March 8, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Carol and Dennis Fitzgerald.
