COMMENDING the New York African Chorus Ensemble,
Inc. upon the occasion of hosting The Gathering XI.
PT .2, a World Music Concert Paying Home to our
Ancestors on February 25, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that organizations
that give positive definition to the profile and disposition of the
communities of the State of New York profoundly strengthen our society
with their commitment; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate
those events of historical significance which add strength, vigor and
inspiration to the cultural diversity and quality of life in the
communities of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the New York African Chorus Ensemble, Inc. upon the occasion of
hosting The Gathering XI. PT .2, a World Music Concert Paying Home to
our Ancestors on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Our Lady of Lourdes in
New York, New York; and

WHEREAS, The concert will include performances by The Greek American
Folklore Society, Roland Sterling Dominican Carnival Teekvision,
SompohiBayaGla and the New York African Chorus Ensemble; and

WHEREAS, The New York African Chorus Ensemble strives to preserve
and promote native African art forms which serve as a continuum to the
historical and classical traditions of Africa through performances,
publications, research, and training in order to facilitate greater
understanding and peaceful coexistence between the people of Africa and
the World; and

WHEREAS, This vital organization also provides a conducive venue for
an international sharing and exchange of ideas and opportunities for the
underserved to take part in or view high quality performances; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, the New York African Chorus Ensemble
has shared the intrinsic healing properties of African music with all
people; each and every performance is a celebration of life; the company
literally transforms every concert arena into a vibrant African village
and incorporates the audience in the dancing and singing; and

WHEREAS, It is most fitting that we take time to celebrate the arts
of our Nation, to honor our artists, and to express our appreciation to
everyone who patronizes the arts; and as we celebrate the arts, we
celebrate and give thanks to our American freedom, the only atmosphere
in which artists can truly create and in which art is truly the
expression of the soul; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the New York African Chorus Ensemble, Inc. upon the occasion of

hosting The Gathering XI. PT .2, a World Music Concert Paying Home to
our Ancestors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the New York African Chorus Ensemble, Inc.
