COMMENDING Joe and Mary Bonura upon the occasion
of their designation for special recognition by
Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc. on
March 25, 2017
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Joe and
Mary Bonura upon the occasion of their designation for special
recognition by Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc., to be
celebrated at its Bow Ties and Bouquets Spring Gala on Saturday, March
25, 2017, at Anthony's Pier 9 in New Windsor, New York; and
WHEREAS, The dedicated staff and volunteers of Hospice of Orange and
Sullivan Counties strive to improve the quality of a patient's life by
offering comfort and dignity by addressing all symptoms of a disease,
with a special emphasis on controlling a patient's pain and discomfort
and also providing the emotional, social and spiritual support for the
patient and the patient's family; and
WHEREAS, Joe and Mary Bonura are being recognized for their many
years of support to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, along with
their unwavering dedication to helping Hospice carry out its mission of
providing comfort and support to patients and their families when a
life-limiting illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments;
and
WHEREAS, Since 2004, Mary Bonura has been a vital member of the
Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties Board of Directors; she is also
one of the Founding Members of the Hospice Auxiliary, and in July of
2008, became its first President; and
WHEREAS, Mary Bonura has served on both the Gala and Auxiliary
Committee; in 2010, she became a Certified Hospice Volunteer, and
trained to be a Vigil Volunteer; a kind and compassionate woman, she
often accompanies many patients at the end of their lives; and
WHEREAS, Together, Mary and Joe Bonura are important benefactors of
Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, generously supporting the
capital campaign for the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence that is now in
its 11th year of providing in-patient hospice care; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Joe and Mary Bonura have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by
individuals for the benefit of others which Joe and Mary Bonura have
displayed throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and associations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Joe and Mary Bonura upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition by Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc. on
March 25, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Joe and Mary Bonura.
