COMMENDING the State Bowling Center upon the
occasion of being named a 2018 Golden Anniversary
honoree by the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and companies which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the State Bowling Center upon the occasion of being named a 2018
Golden Anniversary honoree by the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce to
be celebrated at its 50th Anniversary Membership Meeting and Luncheon on
Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Francesca's Banquet Hall, Ilion, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Bill Brown purchased the State Bowling Center in 1957, and
added a bar area, a banquet room and a dance hall in the 1960s; many
local bands played there during those years; and
WHEREAS, During the next decade, new lanes were installed along with
under lane ball returns and automatic scoring; business grew and six
more lanes were added; and
WHEREAS, In 1988, Bill Brown died, and Rod Brown and his wife,
Carol, stepped in to run the State Bowling Center, before purchasing the
business in 1997; since then, they have made many upgrades; this year
will mark Rod's 50th year in the business; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling achievements it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the State Bowling Center upon the occasion of being named a 2018
Golden Anniversary honoree by the Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the State Bowling Center.
