Assembly Resolution No. 1163

CONGRATULATING Unalam upon the occasion of being
named the 2018 Business of the Years by the Sidney
Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Unalam upon the occasion of being named the 2018 Business
of the Years by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Unalam has earned this prestigious honor in recognition of
its dedication to the community, its residents and employees; and

WHEREAS, In 1892, J.W. VanCott began selling lumber in Unadilla, New
York, with no way of knowing it would evolve into Unalam; and

WHEREAS, Unalam has been in business for more than 125 years, six
generations, and currently has 46 employees in its two locations in
Unadilla and Sidney, New York; and

WHEREAS, With well over a century of experience in the wood
business, Unalam is a leading wood manufacturer specializing in glulam
products in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit building needs; their
structural glulam units are available in columns, trusses, arches,
purlins and beams; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, some of this extraordinary business' work can
be seen at the Veterans Memorial in Sidney, the Pathfinder Village
Pavilion in Edmeston and the Police Memorial in Battery Park, as well as
at St. John Fisher College and Duke University; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 125-year history, Unalam has
demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communities which
it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of Unalam is in direct correlation to the
efforts of its staff, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the business and the communities it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Unalam; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Unalam upon the occasion of being named the 2018 Business
of the Years by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Unalam.
