HONORING New York State Trooper Thomas E. Miller
of Lewis County upon the occasion of receiving a
Superintendent's Commendation
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
New York State Trooper Thomas E. Miller of Lewis County upon the
occasion of receiving a Superintendent's Commendation; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Police will recognize New York State
Trooper Thomas E. Miller during their Forty-second Annual
Superintendent's Commendation and Awards Day Ceremony, for his
invaluable and outstanding service to law enforcement and the citizens
of New York; and
WHEREAS, On July 4, 2017, Trooper Thomas E. Miller of the Carthage
State Police Department arrived at the scene of a multi-unit home fully
engulfed in flames in the Village of Carthage, New York, where he was
approached by a male stating that there were residents still trapped
inside the burning residence; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Thomas E. Miller took the initiative by bravely and
heroically entering the burning structure in search of anyone who may
have still been trapped inside the home; and
WHEREAS, Putting his very own life at risk, Trooper Thomas E. Miller
managed to save the lives of a family, including two adults and two
children; and
WHEREAS, Trooper Thomas E. Miller's calm and selfless actions in an
emergency situation are in keeping with the finest traditions of the New
York State Police; he is being recognized and honored for his valor and
sacrifice presented to ensure the safety and well-being of the people of
New York State; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York is privileged to be served by
uniformed officers who willingly and bravely protect and serve our
civilians and special admiration is shown to New York State Trooper
Thomas E. Miller for his dedicated service to the citizens of our great
State; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all
the citizens of this great Empire State, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor New York State Trooper Thomas E. Miller of Lewis County upon the
occasion of receiving a Superintendent's Commendation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to New York State Trooper Thomas E. Miller.
