HONORING Linda Eagan upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2018 Amelia Earhart
Woman of Achievement Award by the Zonta Club of
Oswego on June 19, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who have devoted themselves to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Linda Eagan upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2018 Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement Award by the Zonta Club of
Oswego to be celebrated at its Annual Recognition Dinner on Tuesday,
June 19, 2018, at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in
Oswego, New York; and
WHEREAS, For 33 years, the Zonta Club of Oswego has presented the
Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement Award to a woman who has dedicated
herself to her community and who serves as a role model for young women;
Linda Eagan is truly deserving of this prestigious award; and
WHEREAS, Linda Eagan has tirelessly served the citizens of Oswego
County in various capacities; in 1994, she became the Teen Health Issues
Educator and Team Leader for the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program
through Oswego County BOCES; she then became the Director of the
Program, a position she held for 12 years; and
WHEREAS, Linda Eagan next served as the Adolescent Family Life
Coordinator with Oswego County Opportunities; in this role, she
continued her efforts to reduce adolescent pregnancy; she truly believed
that knowledge equaled power; and
WHEREAS, In 2013, Linda Eagan became the Compliance Program
Administrator for Oswego County Health Department where she was actively
involved locally with the Department's Prevention Agenda for four years;
and
WHEREAS, Linda Eagan was chosen to give a poster presentation at the
New York Population Health Summit in New York City based on one of the
Agenda's projects, "Healthy Highways"; the program strives to educate
Oswego County elementary students about nutrition and healthy eating;
and
WHEREAS, Most recently, Linda Eagan was instrumental in founding
Fulton Block Builders which promotes the development, restoration and
preservation of healthy, vibrant neighborhoods and communities in the
city of Fulton, New York; and
WHEREAS, For several years Linda Eagan donated not only her time and
energy, but also her heart and soul to this valuable project, spending
countless hours preparing a proposal for a grant from the Shineman
Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to her profession and the residents of Oswego
County, Linda Eagan holds the position of Vice President of the Oswego
City/County Youth Bureau Board of Directors, and President of the Weston
T. Hyde Educational Foundation; she was also a member of the New York
State Council on Adolescent Pregnancy, Health Teen Network and Family
Planning Advocates; and
WHEREAS, For her steadfast efforts, Linda Eagan has been the
recipient of numerous awards and accolades including the 2016-2017
Community Service Award by the Fulton Sunrise Rotary and the 2017
Greater Oswego/Fulton Chamber of Commerce Positive Community Momentum
Award; in 2015, she was named to the New York State's Public Health
Honor Roll for her outstanding commitment to public health; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Linda Eagan upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2018 Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement Award by the Zonta Club of
Oswego on June 19, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Linda Eagan.
