COMMENDING Skip Jensen upon the occasion of his
retirement after 17 years of distinguished service
as a Field Advisor for the New York Farm Bureau
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have
devoted themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their
community and the needs of its residents; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Skip Jensen upon the occasion of his retirement after 17 years
of distinguished service as a Field Advisor for the New York Farm
Bureau; and
WHEREAS, Skip Jensen grew up on the family farm in Penn Yan; he
attended Cornell, then came home to the dairy farm; he and his wife,
Jennifer, operated the farm for many years where they raised their three
daughters; and
WHEREAS, In the 1990s, Skip Jensen sold the dairy farm and first
went to work with El-Vi Farms in Newark, then as a spray technician for
Agway Cooperative; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Skip Jensen began his career with the New York
Farm Bureau where he has been a Field Advisor in the Finger Lakes
Region, responsible for six county Farm Bureaus, including: Wayne,
Ontario, Yates, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tompkins; and
WHEREAS, Over the last 17 years, Skip Jensen has helped local
farmers deal with a variety of issues such as: Right-to-Farm, Regulatory
Policy, Animal Care, Agriculture Assessment, Easement/Right of Ways,
Taxation, Agricultural Education, and more; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Skip Jensen has been a tireless advocate for
Finger Lakes Agriculture, his passion for farming evident at all times;
and
WHEREAS, One of his favorite Farm Bureau causes has been the
Foundation for Agricultural Education, which raises funds to educate the
non-farm public about modern agriculture; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, Skip Jensen has been involved in several
Agricultural organizations including: Farm Bureau, Dairylea Cooperative,
DHIA, Genex, and others; he also served for several years on the Penn
Yan School Board; and
WHEREAS, After retiring from the New York Farm Bureau, Skip Jensen
will stay busy with his many interests such as working with his
neighbors in the Mennonite Community, tending to animals on his small
farm, and especially his bees; he has several hives he harvests honey
from, and puts on neighboring farms to pollinate crops; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Skip Jensen upon the occasion of his retirement, and to wish him
continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Skip Jensen.
