COMMEMORATING the 30th Anniversary of Youth
Enrichment Services, and paying tribute to this
year's honorees
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the 30th Anniversary of Youth Enrichment Services to be
celebrated at its Back to the Future Celebration, and to pay tribute to
this year's honorees to be celebrated on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at
Captain Bill's in Bay Shore, New York; and
WHEREAS, During this auspicious occasion, Youth Enrichment Services
will proudly pay tribute Dr. Sylvia Diaz, President of Suffolk Community
College Foundation and Liz Mayott, Community Advocate for the integral
role they have played in health as well as the well-being of the
community; and
WHEREAS, Youth Enrichment Services was founded in 1987, in the
hamlet of West Islip, New York, with the mission of serving youth and
their families while creating a safe and healthy environment; and
WHEREAS, Focusing on youth development and asset building, Youth
Enrichment Services offers after school and summer programs, mentoring,
work readiness, job placement, tutoring and substance abuse prevention;
by providing opportunities to the youth to engage in the community and
through life enhancing activities, they have reduced negative behavior
such as gang involvement, violence, school drop outs and teenage
pregnancy; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Youth Enrichment Services has grown
substantially by providing a wide variety of quality services for the
most vulnerable children; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Executive Director MaryAnn
Pfeiffer, Youth Enrichment Services has developed close collaborations
with many esteemed organizations and businesses; this has enabled them
to provide programs which serve the needs of local families and
communities, many of which have high needs and are uniquely diverse; and
WHEREAS, Youth Enrichment Services serves more than 7,000 youth and
families in the Town of Islip communities and school districts annually;
in 2016, Youth Enrichment Services expanded to open a New York State
Office of Mental Health Outpatient Mental Health Clinic to serve
children and youth up to the age of 21; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Youth Enrichment Services (YES), and
pay to tribute to this year's honorees; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to MaryAnn Pfeiffer, Executive Director, Youth Enrichment
Services.
