HONORING Billie Crandall Brady posthumously upon
the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2017 Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement Award by
the Zonta Club of Oswego on June 20, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who devoted themselves to the welfare of the community and
its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Billie Crandall Brady posthumously upon the occasion of her designation
as recipient of the 2017 Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement Award by
the Zonta Club of Oswego to be celebrated at its Awards Dinner on
Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the American Foundry in Oswego, New York; and

WHEREAS, For 32 years, the Zonta Club of Oswego has presented the
prestigious Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement Award to a woman who has
dedicated herself to her community and who serves as a role model for
young women; the late Billie Crandall Brady is truly deserved of this
award; and

WHEREAS, For over 28 years, Billie Crandall Brady tirelessly served
the citizens of Oswego County through various capacities; for six years,
she was an Education Job Information Coordinator at the Fulton Public
Library; and

WHEREAS, Billie Crandall Brady then held various positions within
the Integrated Community Planning of Oswego County for 22 years;
throughout her tenure, she served as a steadfast advocate for families
and children in the County; and

WHEREAS, In her most recent role with Integrative Community Planning
of Oswego County, Billie Crandall Brady worked for the Traffic Safety
Board of Oswego County; funded by the Governor's Traffic Safety
Committee, this vital organization provides outreach and education
related to child passengers, bicycles, pedestrians, motor vehicles and
occupant restraints; and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, Billie Crandall Brady focused on raising
awareness on three important traffic issues such as providing education
to older drivers and offering in-car driving classes, drinking and
driving, and the lack of a universal seat belt law in New York State
which would require all passengers to wear occupant restraints; and

WHEREAS, One of Billie Crandall Brady's most powerful presentations
aimed at high school students was entitled "Back Seat Bullet," which
showed what can happen during an accident to a person riding in the back
seat of a car who is not buckled up; and

WHEREAS, Billie Crandall Brady was also instrumental in a pedestrian
safety project with the Oswego Network of Entrepreneurs which made the
community friendlier for walkers; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to the community in which she lived, worked and
played, Billie Crandall Brady graciously donated her time and energy to
several worthy organizations including Zonta Club of Oswego, St. Paul's
Academy, the Oswego Children's Board and Park-It, which focused its
efforts on improving children's safety and development; and

WHEREAS, Known as "Billie Brady Safety Lady," this remarkable woman
was a true champion of traffic safety; she was passionate about making
everyone safer on local roadways, leaving behind a legacy of giving and
compassion which will carry on for many years to come; and

WHEREAS, Billie Crandall Brady is survived by her loving husband,
Dennis Brady; her two cherished sons, Nathan and Griffin (Pamela); and
her treasured grandchild, Cromac; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhanced the quality of life in their community and showed a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Billie Crandall Brady posthumously upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2017 Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement
Award by the Zonta Club of Oswego; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Billie Crandall Brady.
