COMMENDING Tom Smiley upon the occasion of being
inducted into the 2019 SUNY New Paltz School of
Business Hall of Fame as Alumnus of the Year

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Tom Smiley upon the occasion of being inducted into the 2019
SUNY New Paltz School of Business Hall of Fame as Alumnus of the Year,
to be celebrated with an Induction Ceremony on April 24, 2019, at the
Grandview, Poughkeepsie, New York; and

WHEREAS, Tom Smiley, SUNY New Paltz Class of 2009, currently serves
as Chief Executive Officer of Mohonk Mountain House, a National Historic
Landmark resort and Historic Hotel of America which has been owned and
operated by the Smiley family since 1869; and

WHEREAS, Growing up in Montana, Tom Smiley moved to the Hudson
Valley in 2003, during which time he began his illustrious career with
Mohonk Mountain House as Director of Properties before being appointed
Vice President in 2016; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to SUNY New Paltz, Tom Smiley joined the
Business Advisory Council in 2014, where he now serves as vice chair; he
has also been involved with the Business Plan Contest and has often
returned to campus to meet with students and share his unique
professional experience; and

WHEREAS, The success of Mohonk Mountain House is in direct
correlation to the efforts of Tom Smiley, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the business and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Tom Smiley upon the occasion of being inducted into the 2019
SUNY New Paltz School of Business Hall of Fame as Alumnus of the Year;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Tom Smiley.
