HONORING Jasmine Rogers upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Excellence in
Teaching Award by the National Heritage Academies

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals in the teaching profession who distinguish
themselves in their dedication and commitment to their students; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Jasmine Rogers upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Excellence in Teaching Award by the National Heritage Academies
celebrated at a surprise ceremony at Brooklyn Scholars Charter School;
and

WHEREAS, This prestigious award selects teachers from across the
organization for recognition in 11 categories, including kindergarten-
through eighth-grade, specials, specialists, and paraprofessionals; the
finalists are chosen based on personal evaluations, parent satisfaction,
and academic scores, to name a few; and

WHEREAS, The Excellence in Teaching Award shines a light on the
unsung heroes who are every day making a difference in children's lives;
Jasmine Rogers is truly one of these heroes; and

WHEREAS, Jasmine Rogers earned her bachelor's degree in elementary
education from St. John's University; New York State certified to teach
grades 1-6, she is dedicated and committed to providing all her students
with a quality education and an opportunity to reach their full
potential; and

WHEREAS, Always eager to learn innovative methods to advance
teaching and learning, Jasmine Rogers is currently attending graduate
school at Brooklyn College, where she is expected to complete her
master's degree in Math Curriculum and Instruction in May of 2019; and

WHEREAS, Since 2012, Jasmine Rogers has been a dedicated and vital
part of the Brooklyn Scholars Charter School community; she has served
as the Grade 4 Team Leader, as well as the New York City Content Leader
for grade 4 and has facilitated professional development sessions and
workshops for the staff on many occasions; and

WHEREAS, Recently, Jasmine Rogers became certified as an instructor
with Project Lead the Way and is a participant in the New York City
District-Charter Collaborative initiative to implement a STEAM
curriculum to study the implications of equity in project-based
learning; and

WHEREAS, Jasmine Rogers also serves on the school's Social Committee
and enthusiastically shares her input on how to engage staff through
social events; and

WHEREAS, A kind and compassionate woman, Jasmine Rogers teaches from
the heart and has developed close relationships with her students; she
takes ownership for the success of her students by always doing the
right thing and strives to make the school the best choice for parents
and students; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her career thus far, Jasmine Rogers has brought
an uncompromising standard of excellence to her work and a warm sense of
caring and concern to every young person she educates; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jasmine Rogers upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Excellence in Teaching Award by the National Heritage Academies;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jasmine Rogers.
