COMMENDING the Muslim community of the Capital
Region upon the occasion of the Third Annual Ramadan
Welcome Celebration to be held on April 30, 2019

WHEREAS, There are an estimated seven million Muslims in America,
along with Islamic places of worship, in all 50 states; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Muslim
community of the Capital Region upon the occasion of the Third Annual
Ramadan Welcome Celebration to be held at the Well of the Legislative
Office Building (LOB), Albany, New York, on Tuesday, April 30, 2019; and

WHEREAS, The holy month of Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic
calendar, and a great moment of sacrifice and contemplation for Muslims
worldwide; and

WHEREAS, This year, Ramadan will begin on Sunday, May 5th and will
end on Tuesday, June 4th with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which
marks the completion of the holy month; and

WHEREAS, During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims spend most of
their time from sunset to sundown in reflection and prayer while
strengthening the bonds of family, friendship and community; and

WHEREAS, Muslims in the Capital Region of New York, the United
States and around the world will observe Ramadan by fasting to deepen
spiritual devotion, emphasizing self-discipline, worship, and charity,
and reading the Holy Quran to improve patience, humility and
spirituality; and

WHEREAS, Muslims around the world enter this holy month of Ramadan,
the Muslim community of the Capital Region along with all Muslim in the
State of New York as valuable citizens of this great Country, will take
this opportunity to share the most essential part of their faith with
fellow citizens, members of the community and public officials to say we
wish peace and love to all of you. "Ramadan Mubarak"; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Muslim community of the Capital Region upon the occasion of
the Third Annual Ramadan Welcome Celebration on April 30, 2019; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Muslim community of the Capital Region.
