COMMEMORATING the Long Island Council on
Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. upon the
occasion of hosting its 32nd Annual Adele C.
Smithers Angel Ball on April 29, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
those organizations and individuals within the State of New York who
have shown a dedicated commitment to improving the health and well-being
of our citizens; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence,
Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 32nd Annual Adele C. Smithers
Angel Ball to be held at the Garden City Hotel in Garden City, New York,
on Monday, April 29, 2019; this year's Keynote Speaker is award-winning
singer-songwriter Judy Collins; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1956 by R. Brinkley Smithers, the Long
Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (LICADD) is the
leading nonprofit organization on Long Island dedicated to addressing
the challenges of alcoholism and drug addiction, and promoting addiction
recovery; and

WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, the LICADD addresses the
addictive climate of our times by providing initial attention and
referral services to individuals, families, and children, through
intervention, education and professional guidance to overcome the
ravages of alcohol and other drug-related problems; and

WHEREAS, As an independent and voluntary not-for-profit agency whose
only affiliation is with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug
Dependence (NCADD), the LICADD is able to objectively tailor its
programs and services purely in the best interests of its clients; and

WHEREAS, The success of the LICADD is in direct correlation to the
efforts of Executive Director Steven H. Chassman, and his Board of
Directors, as well as his staff, whose involvement is, and always has
been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the institution and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence,
Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its 32nd Annual Adele C. Smithers
Angel Ball on April 29, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Steven H. Chassman, Executive Director, the Long Island
Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. and Keynote Speaker Judy
Collins.
