Senate Resolution No. 1141

COMMENDING the Junior League of Brooklyn upon the
occasion of hosting its 11th Annual Belle and Beau
of the Ball on April 27, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that the quality
and character of life in this great Empire State is greatly enriched by
the faithful and diligent work of those organizations which serve to
meet the needs of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Junior League of Brooklyn upon the occasion of hosting its
11th Annual Belle and Beau of the Ball, to be held on Saturday, April
27, 2019, at P.S. 161, The Crown School in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious event provides young women and men with
formal attire, free of charge, to attend prom and graduation festivities
coupled with a college scholarship; and

WHEREAS, The Junior League of Brooklyn was established in 1910, by
women interested in fighting the health and social problems associated
with over-crowded tenement neighborhoods; it is the third oldest of the
292 Junior Leagues comprised of more than 155,000 women in Canada,
Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States, through the
Association of Junior Leagues International; and

WHEREAS, For the past 109 years, the Junior League of Brooklyn has
been committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of
women of all races, religions and national origins, and improving the
community through the effective action and leadership of trained
volunteers; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
organizations which unselfishly devote their energy, talent and
thoughtful care on behalf of improving the quality and dignity of life
in the community, are worthy and due full praise and recognition for
their noble and dedicated efforts; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Junior League of Brooklyn upon the occasion of hosting its
11th Annual Belle and Beau of the Ball on April 27, 2019; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Junior League of Brooklyn.
