HONORING Lauren and Harold Iselin upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the
Pillars of the Community Award by the Sidney Albert
Albany Jewish Community Center

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors,
and community service are an example and inspiration to their
colleagues, friends, family, and community; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Lauren and Harold Iselin upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Pillars of the Community Award by the Sidney Albert
Albany Jewish Community Center to be celebrated on Sunday, April 28,
2019, at Congregation Beth Emeth, Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, Each year, this prestigious awards ceremony recognizes
individuals for their contributions to the Center and the Jewish
community-at-large by acting as moral pillars and dispensers of wisdom
and advice, providing continued service and leadership, and acting
generously in the spirit of Tzedakah; and

WHEREAS, Widely known for their extraordinary dedication to Israel
and the local community, Lauren and Harold Iselin's philanthropic and
leadership endeavors continue to inspire all of those who are lucky
enough to know them; and

WHEREAS, Lauren and Harold Iselin met in Washington, D.C. at a
United Jewish Federation event; soon after they married, and returned to
the Capital Region, where Harold grew up; and

WHEREAS, Professionally, Lauren worked at 3M before her career at
WRGB which traversed several years; Harold worked as an assistant
counsel to Mario Cuomo before entering private practice; and

WHEREAS, Lauren Iselin has been an active member of the Capital
Region Jewish community for many years; when the couple's three sons
were enrolled at Hamagrael Elementary School, she dedicated her time to
being a classroom mother as well as Co-President of the PTA; and

WHEREAS, As a member of Congregation Beth Emeth, Lauren Iselin began
her 13 years on the board as the chairperson of the Education Committee;
she then became an officer and moved up the ranks to become the
President of the congregation; and

WHEREAS, Lauren Iselin co-created and chaired the Federation's
Women's Seder and volunteered with its Literacy Program; she has truly
loved reading with students at North Albany Academy for two decades; and

WHEREAS, In addition, she chaired the 2017 Capital Region Maccabi
Games and is active with AIPAC and the Jewish National Fund; she

currently serves on the Board of Overseers of the New York campus of the
Hebrew Union College; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Harold Iselin served on the first board of the Albany Airport
Authority and proudly helped oversee the construction of the new
terminal; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, he has served on the boards of Twin Rivers,
the University at Albany Foundation and the Jewish Community Center; and

WHEREAS, Harold Iselin currently serves as the president of the
board of Capital Repertory Theater awards and accolades well as on the
boards of Proctors Theater and the New York State Archives Partnership
Trust; and

WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their three sons, David,
Alex and Michael, who have all shown them love and support and rejoice
in their many achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by
individuals for the benefit of others which Lauren and Harold Iselin
have displayed throughout their lives; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Lauren and Harold Iselin, that future generations may know and
appreciate their admirable character, their many benevolent deeds, and
their respect and esteem in which they are held by their peers; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lauren and Harold Iselin upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Pillars of the Community Award by the Sidney Albert
Albany Jewish Community Center; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lauren and Harold Iselin.
