HONORING Ethan Luper upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Herbert A. Applebaum
Memorial Award by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish
Community Center

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Ethan Luper upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Herbert A. Applebaum Memorial Award by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish
Community Center to be celebrated on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at
Congregation Beth Emeth, Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, Each year, this prestigious awards ceremony recognizes
individuals for their contributions to the Center and the Jewish
community-at-large by acting as moral pillars and dispensers of wisdom
and advice, providing continued service and leadership, and acting
generously in the spirit of Tzedakah; and

WHEREAS, A senior at Shaker High School, Ethan Luper has
distinguished himself as a young man of superlative ability,
establishing a high standard of leadership, academic excellence and
purposefulness of life rarely achieved in youthful years; and

WHEREAS, Ethan Luper was Captain of the section-championship winning
Shaker Blue Bison Football Team, during which time he was named Lineman
of the Year and a Class AA All-Star; as a sophomore, he was also Captain
of the JV wrestling team; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Ethan Luper gave of his time and energies to the Colonie Town
Youth Court for six years; and

WHEREAS, The Albany Jewish Community Center has had a profound
impact on Ethan Luper's life; he loved the experience of travelling for
the Maccabi Games, winning two Midot Medals along with a bronze medal
and a gold medal; and

WHEREAS, This summer, Ethan Luper will work as a Senior Counselor at
Teen Camp before attending college where he plans to major in Sports
Management and go on to pursue a law degree; and

WHEREAS, Widely known for his extraordinary dedication to the local
community, Ethan Luper's leadership endeavors continue to inspire all of
those who are lucky enough to know him; and

WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to wish Ethan Luper continued success throughout his school years
and beyond; and


WHEREAS, With his sense of civic duty and his commitment to others,
Ethan Luper represents the best development of the potential which is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ethan Luper upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Herbert A. Applebaum Memorial Award by the Sidney Albert Albany
Jewish Community Center; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ethan Luper.
