COMMENDING Glenn E. Bowers, Sr. posthumously upon
the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Glenn E.
Bowers, Sr. posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate, to be celebrated at the Union
Fire Company's Annual Banquet on Saturday, April 27, 2019; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, Born on July 13, 1948, in Ballston Spa, New York, Glenn E.
Bowers, Sr. was the son of Russell and Dorothy Bowers, Sr. and a
graduate of Ballston Spa High School; and

WHEREAS, Glenn E. Bowers, Sr. proudly served his country as a
Sergeant in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969; and

WHEREAS, For his courageous service during the Vietnam War, Glenn E.
Bowers, Sr. was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam
Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service, Glenn E.
Bowers, Sr. spent his 35-year career with Verizon as a cable splicing
technician; and

WHEREAS, Active in his community, Glenn E. Bowers, Sr. was a 52-year
member of Union Fire Company No. 2, serving as Foreman (1979-81), First
Assistant Chief (1985-87) and Chief (1987-88); he was also a longtime
member of VFW Post No. 358 in Ballston Spa; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary man enjoyed camping, cruising and
attending NASCAR races with his family; and

WHEREAS, Glenn E. Bowers, Sr. died on Monday, March 25, 2019, at the
age of 70; he is buried at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National
Cemetery; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his parents, Glenn E. Bowers, Sr. is
survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia; three children, Kristina,
Glenn Jr. (Kristie) and Betsy (Jon); five grandchildren, Michaela
(Christopher), Aubrey, Steven, Kodie, and Siarra; a brother, Russell II

(Trudy); sister, Bonnie (Gary); several nieces and nephews; and his
beloved dogs, Rufus and Fiona; and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Glenn E. Bowers, Sr. demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Glenn E. Bowers, Sr. posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Glenn E. Bowers, Sr.
