MOURNING the death of Frederica Warner,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of her
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to mourn the death of
Frederica Warner, distinguished citizen and devoted member of her
community; she died on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at the age of 101; and

WHEREAS, Frederica Warner was born on December 14, 1917, in the City
of Newburgh, New York; and

WHEREAS, At the young age 10, Frederica Warner became a member of
Girl Scout Troop 7, where she learned to help her community, which she
has done for 90 years; and

WHEREAS, After her father died, Frederica Warner left school when
she was 16 years-old to help support her family; she received a General
Education Diploma in 2016; and

WHEREAS, In 1972, Frederica Warner founded Meals on Wheels of
Greater Newburgh, a program that delivers hot, nutritious meals to
homebound individuals in Newburgh and New Windsor; and

WHEREAS, Frederica Warner became a living legend in Orange County
for her contributions to numerous organizations including: Habitat for
Humanity, Board of Directors; the McQuade Foundation, Board of
Directors; Business & Professional Women's Club, President; Human Rights
Commission of Orange County; Advisory Committee of the Church Women
United to the United Nations; Zonta International; and the Magenta
Mammas Red Hatters; and

WHEREAS, Frederica Warner received many honors including: Trustees
Award for Distinguished Service from Mount Saint Mary College; the 1992
Outstanding Community Service Leadership Award from Temple Beth Jacob;
the Black Humanitarian Award from Newburgh Free Academy; the New York
State Senate Woman of Distinction Award; and the Distinguished Service
Award from the Newburgh Jaycees; and

WHEREAS, In 2016, the City of Newburgh re-named the part of Roe
Street where Frederica warner lived for many years as Frederica Warner
Way; and

WHEREAS, Frederica Warner, who gave so much to Newburgh, wished for
the city she loved to shine the way it did when she was a little kid;
and

WHEREAS, Frederica was married to Loren Warner for 65 years; she was
the loving mother of one daughter, and the proud grandmother of seven

grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren;
and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Frederica Warner leaves behind a legacy that will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Frederica Warner, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of her community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Frederica Warner.
