COMMENDING Dr. Carol M. Grant upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the Alpha
Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Zeta Lambda Chapter
on May 11, 2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Dr. Carol M. Grant upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Zeta
Lambda Chapter to be celebrated at its 10th Annual A Mother's Dream
Scholarship Gospel Luncheon on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Terrace on the
Park in Flushing, New York; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Carol M. Grant obtained both her Master of Social Work
degree and Post Master's degree in Clinical Social Work with children
and families from Adelphi University's School of Social Work, where she
was the first African American woman chosen to be the class speaker; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Carol M. Grant furthered her education by graduating
summa cum laude with a Doctorate from Arizona State University's Doctor
of Behavioral Health Program; this remarkable woman is an initiate of
the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most
selective-all-discipline collegiate honor society; and

WHEREAS, Today, Dr. Carol M. Grant is a highly sought-after Social
Worker, Behavioral Health Specialist, Inspirational Speaker, College
Professor, Trainer, and Life Coach; she has over 32 years in the
children and families service field, working as a Child Protection
Manager for Family Services and Family Preservations in Brooklyn, New
York; and

WHEREAS, In addition to these roles, Dr. Carol M. Grant has served
as a Certified Social Work Field Instructor with students from Touro
College, Hunter College, Stony Brook University, and Adelphi University,
and was a college professor at Adelphi University School of Social Work
where she taught Human Behavior, Case Management, Social Work Policy,
and Oppression classes; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Dr. Carol M. Grant is a Professor at Hostos
Community College, Arizona State University, Central Michigan
University, and Maryville University, where she teaches Introduction to
Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Psychological Research, and
Introduction to Social Work classes; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Carol M. Grant also serves as a social work consultant
for the Alpha Phi Alpha Senior Citizen's Center in Cambria Heights, New

York, holds the title of CEO of Kym's Kloset, and is the co-founder of
Teens Accepting Responsibility for Achievement (TARA); and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Dr. Carol M. Grant has presented various
lectures at CUNY York College and serves as the Inspirational speaker
for the Sisters Circle of Love, Family Preservations, and the Community
Board 13; she has also held workshops for the Alpha Phi Senior Citizens
Center; and

WHEREAS, This dynamic woman volunteers her time and energies working
in Queens community shelters, group homes, and soup kitchens, and holds
the position of President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Delta Beta
Zeta Chapter; and

WHEREAS, For her steadfast and unremitting commitment to improving
society, Dr. Carol M. Grant was the recipient of the Rita Paprin
Memorial Fellowship Award by Adelphi University and the Metropolitan
College of New York Phenomenal Women of Power Award; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her two children, Isidra and
Tequan, and her grandson, Princeton, all of whom have shown her love and
support and rejoice in her many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Carol M. Grant upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Zeta
Lambda Chapter on May 11, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Carol M. Grant.
