HONORING Alfredo Ramos upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Sons of
Pericles on May 5, 2019
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Alfredo Ramos upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Sons of Pericles to be celebrated at an Awards Brunch
at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Albany, New York, on Sunday, May
5, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Alfredo Ramos was born on May 26, 1958, to Aida Martinez
Ramos and Alexander Ramos; his parents and older sister came to Albany
from Puerto Rico in 1953; and
WHEREAS, The Ramos family settled in Albany where Alfredo's father
was a Chef at Costallto Restaurant for many years before working at The
University Club, and his mother was a stay at home Mom, raising five
children; and
WHEREAS, In his early years, Alfredo Ramos worked at Memorial
Hospital in the Dietitian Department for a few years before moving to
Dutchess County, where he was employed in the textile industries; and
WHEREAS, When Alfredo Ramos relocated back to the Capital District,
he first worked at Albany Medical Hospital preparing the operating
rooms, then as head maintenance at Catholic Diocese for the housing
department before serving as the Head of Maintenance at Bank of America
for eight years; during that time, he met Theodora Mokhiber; and
WHEREAS, When he was laid off from the bank, Theodora approached
Alfredo and asked if he would be interested in working for St. Sophia's;
he went for his first interview dressed to the nines; he did not know he
would have two more interviews and was a bit nervous because he only had
one suit, so he just put on different shirts and changed his ties; and
WHEREAS, Alfredo Ramos got the job and, after 27 years of dedicated
service, he is still going strong as Plant Manager at the Church; and
WHEREAS, Besides his obligations as Plant Manager, Alfredo Ramos is
a very caring person and is always willing to help others; he paints,
moves furniture, snow blows, mows lawns or any other odd jobs that are
needed to be done; and
WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of his duties and
responsibilities, Alfredo Ramos' ongoing efforts and notable
achievements have significantly contributed to bettering the quality of
life for the many friends he has learned to love and trust at St.
Sophia's; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Alfredo Ramos has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Alfredo Ramos upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Sons of Pericles; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Alfredo Ramos.
