HONORING Amber Chandler upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2018 Educator of the
Year Award by the Association of Middle Level
Education

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this
great State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Amber Chandler upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2018 Educator of the Year Award by the Association of Middle Level
Education; this momentous occasion was celebrated in October of 2018, at
the 45th Annual Conference for Middle Level Education in Orlando,
Florida; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious award, supported by the AMLE Foundation
Fund, recognizes outstanding professionals in middle level education who
have made a significant impact on the lives of young adolescents through
exemplary leadership, vision, and advocacy; and

WHEREAS, Amber Chandler, an English language arts teacher at
Frontier Middle School in Hamburg, New York, has 18 years of experience
instructing middle school, high school, and college students, as well as
providing professional development and mentoring to teachers at the
local, state, and national levels; and

WHEREAS, As an educator, Amber Chandler creates a positive,
supportive learning environment, which centers on developing the whole
child; she actively engages all learners by providing instruction which
allows her students to communicate, collaborate, be creative, and think
critically with their peers to build projects relative to their
learning; and

WHEREAS, A National Board Certified Teacher, Amber Chandler is
author of the book, The Flexible ELA Classroom, a columnist for AMLE
Magazine, and an active education blogger; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary woman is an America Achieves National
Lead Fellow, recipient of a Social Emotional Learning Innovation Award
from the NoVo Foundation and Education First, an expert review panelist
for "Evaluating the Content and Quality of Next Generation Assessments"
with the Thomas Fordham Foundation, and has presented at state and
national education conferences; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, with a tireless and unwavering commitment to
her students, Amber Chandler was awarded a Teaching Tolerance Educator
Grant to start a literary arts magazine at her school; and

WHEREAS, The Hamburg community is indeed fortunate and blessed to
have such a dedicated and respected educational leader; her wisdom and

contributions reach into every classroom, truly making a difference in
the lives of those lucky enough to work with her; and

WHEREAS, A significant contributor to education in New York State,
Amber Chandler continually demonstrates an impressive dedication, an
unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for the quality of
the educational programs and opportunities offered at Frontier Middle
School for the benefit of its faculty and students, as well as for the
entire community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Amber Chandler upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the 2018 Educator of the Year Award by the Association of Middle
Level Education; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Amber Chandler.
