COMMENDING this year's Legacy Honorees for 50 or
more years of membership to the National Association
of University Women, Brooklyn Branch, at its 65th
Anniversary Scholarship and Awards Brunch on June 8,
2019

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who would devote their life's work
and purpose to community service, contributing to the welfare of the
citizens of their communities and this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend this year's Legacy Honorees for 50 or more years of membership
to the National Association of University Women, Brooklyn Branch, at its
65th Anniversary Scholarship and Awards Brunch on Saturday, June 8,
2019, at Top Civic Center, Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, The 2019 Legacy Honorees include: Doris Alexander, Doris
Douglas, Wimberly Edwards, and the late Fannie Porter; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1910 and incorporated in 1924, the mission of
the National Association of University Women (NAUW) is to serve women,
youth and the disadvantaged in the communities of this nation, as well
as in developing countries, by addressing educational issues, advancing
the status of women's issues, and strategically partnering with allied
organizations; and

WHEREAS, To this end, NAUW sponsors, promotes and conducts
educational activities designed to provide community outreach services
to learners at every level of development; it also provides assistance
to individuals who have not completed their education and need basic
skills necessary to function effectively in society; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by
individuals for the benefit of others which this year's Legacy Honorees
have displayed throughout their life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Doris Alexander, Doris Douglas, Wimberly Edwards, and the late Fannie
Porter, that future generations may know and appreciate their admirable
character, their many benevolent deeds, and the respect and esteem in
which they are held by their peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend this year's Legacy Honorees for 50 or more years of membership
to the National Association of University Women, Brooklyn Branch, at its
65th Anniversary Scholarship and Awards Brunch; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Doris Alexander, Doris Douglas, Wimberly Edwards, and the
family of Fannie Porter.
