COMMEMORATING the Blessing of the Fleet, a
celebration marking the opening of boating season

WHEREAS, Recreational boating is a fun and enjoyable past time in
which many New York State residents actively participate during the
summer months; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality
of life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by
its exceptional recreational institutions; and

WHEREAS, It is also the custom of this Legislative Body that
institutions that give positive definition to the profile and
disposition of the communities of the State of New York profoundly
strengthen our society with their commitment; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the Blessing of the Fleet, a celebration marking the opening
of boating season, to be held during Waterfront Activities Day on
Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Steppingstone Marina, Kings Point, New York;
and

WHEREAS, The Steppingstone Sailing Club, Steppingstone Yacht Club
and the Great Neck Park District, in conjunction with the Coast Guard
Auxiliary and other community organizations, are planning a special day
to celebrate a Blessing of the Fleet for all boaters in Great Neck, New
York, and surrounding areas; and

WHEREAS, The Blessing of the Fleet will be part of a Waterfront
Activities Day, which provides an opportunity to recognize and celebrate
the beauty of the waterfront and the various activities available; and

WHEREAS, The Blessing of the Fleet is intended to serve as a
commemorative celebration marking the opening of the boating season and
providing opportunity to wish mariners a season of fair skies and safe
boating; and

WHEREAS, During the celebration, representative boats will parade
past the dock to accept the greetings, benedictions and good wishes from
those on shore; the same good wishes will also be extended to all
vessels moored or anchored in the Steppingstone mooring field; and

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that when
organizations and events of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Blessing of the Fleet, a celebration marking the opening
of boating season; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Steppingstone Sailing Club, Steppingstone Yacht Club,
Great Neck Park District, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
