COMMENDING Jeanette Harmon upon the occasion of
being named the 2018 Citizen of the Year by the
Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas on November 8,
2018

WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons who
provide exemplary service, whether through participation in voluntary
programs, through unique personal achievement in their profession, or
simply through a lifetime of good citizenship; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Jeanette Harmon upon the occasion of being named the 2018
Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas,
celebrated at its Annual Dinner on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at the
Wurtlizer in North Tonawanda, New York; and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in Tonawanda, New York, Jeanette Harmon has
been a vital part of her beloved community for most of her life; she
served as the executive secretary and administrative assistant to
several mayors in the City of Tonawanda, and was the aide to former Erie
County Legislator Michele Iannello; from 1995-1999, she held the title
of President of the YWCA of the Tonawandas; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Jeanette Harmon is a member of both the
Community Science Resources Committee and the City of Tonawanda Housing
Authority Board of Directors, and the Tonawanda Main Street Historic
Preservation and Design Committee; she also serves as Vice Chairwoman of
the Ken-Ton YMCA Board of Managers; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her many civic roles, Jeanette Harmon held
the position of Vice President of William G. Harmon Plumbing and
Heating; and

WHEREAS, For her steadfast and unremitting commitment to her
community, Jeanette Harmon was the recipient of the 1991 Woman of the
Year Award by the Amherst Business and Professional Women's Association
and the 1999 Volunteer of the Year Award by the YWCA of the Tonawandas;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Jeanette Harmon upon the occasion of being named the 2018
Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas on
November 8, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jeanette Harmon.
