HONORING Tabetha Wilson upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Henry Johnson Award
for Distinguished Community Service by the Albany
District 369th Veterans Association on June 5, 2019
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Tabetha
Wilson upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Henry
Johnson Award for Distinguished Community Service by the Albany District
369th Veterans Association to be celebrated at the 3rd Annual Henry
Johnson Day Event on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Henry Johnson Award is bestowed upon an Albany
resident, nominated by their peers, who has made meaningful
contributions to the community and who has demonstrably given of their
time and talent to build a better Albany; Tabetha Wilson is one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, A life-long resident of Albany, New York, Tabetha Wilson is
a member of the Albany City School Board of Education and a tireless
volunteer for numerous organizations; and
WHEREAS, Tabetha Wilson currently works for the New York State
Office of Temporary Disability Assistance, which oversees a variety of
the State's most important programs for low-income residents; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Tabetha Wilson unwaveringly serves New
York's most vulnerable and needy residents and has been instrumental in
bringing countless families to self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unremitting commitment to her
community, Tabetha Wilson devotes much of her time and talents to
coordinating community events and volunteer efforts, including assisting
with planning the inaugural 2019 Women of Color Brunch March and Rally
as well as the New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican
Legislators Youth Summit in 2017 and 2018; and
WHEREAS, Tabetha Wilson also serves as President of AVillage, Inc.
and as a member of the Capital District New Leaders Council, and Grand
Street Community Arts; in addition, she coordinates political literacy
events to engage and educate citizens in civic responsibility,
demonstrating how voting can be used as a tool to empower communities;
and
WHEREAS, In 2018, this extraordinary woman was awarded the YWCA
Resourceful Women's Award and the Ignite Volunteer of the Year for her
work with Capital District Sponsor-a-Scholar; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Tabetha Wilson has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Tabetha Wilson, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Tabetha Wilson upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Henry Johnson Award for Distinguished Community Service by the
Albany District 369th Veterans Association on June 5, 2019; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Tabetha Wilson.
