COMMEMORATING the 150th Anniversary of First
United Methodist Church of Massena, New York on June
8-9, 2019

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social, and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and

WHEREAS, It is the tradition of the State of New York to pay tribute
to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to the
ethical values of their communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of First United Methodist Church of
Massena, New York, to be celebrated with a myriad of events on June 8-9,
2019; and

WHEREAS, The Anniversary Celebration will consist of a combination
of service and fun, kicking off on Saturday, June 8, 2019, with members
packing 150 flood buckets and health kits to be sent to the United
Methodist Committee on Relief for distribution as needed across the
United States following a flood or hurricane; the day will also include
games, bounce houses, food and live country music; and

WHEREAS, On Sunday, June 9, 2019, the day will begin with a meet and
greet as well as coffee and doughnuts before Sunday Worship Service; the
festivities will culminate with a buffet-style dinner in the church's
Fellowship Hall; and

WHEREAS, The cornerstone to First United Methodist Church, located
at 189 Main Street, was laid on May 28, 1869, but Methodism in Massena
goes back much further; and

WHEREAS, Today, under the able leadership of Reverend Rachael
Jordan, First United Methodist Church stands on the threshold of
tomorrow, prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades, while
retaining that spiritual resolve which characterizes its past; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of First United Methodist Church of
Massena, New York on June 8-9, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Reverend Rachael Jordan, First United Methodist Church of
Massena, New York.
