CONGRATULATING Parker Stokes upon the occasion of
capturing the NYSPHSAA Division II 3000 meter
Steeplechase Championship on June 8, 2019

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, A standout senior steeplechase runner for the Maine-Endwell
Spartans, Parker Stokes earned his third state championship in the 3000
meter Steeplechase on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Middletown High School
in Middletown, New York; and

WHEREAS, Parker Stokes won this grueling 7 1/2 lap event with an
outstanding time of 9:02.48, beating the second place finisher by 14.33
seconds; and

WHEREAS, Parker Stokes' overall record is outstanding; he was
loyally and enthusiastically supported by his family, fans, friends and
the community at large; and

WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, Parker Stokes has proven
himself to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favorably
on his school; and

WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and Parker Stokes has clearly made a contribution to
the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Parker Stokes upon the occasion of capturing the NYSPHSAA
Division II 3000 meter Steeplechase Championship on June 8, 2019; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Parker Stokes.
