HONORING Sean Rainey upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Manhasset
Great Neck Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. on
June 20, 2019
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sean Rainey upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
by the Manhasset Great Neck Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. at its
Spring Gala on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Leonard's Palazzo, Great
Neck, New York; and
WHEREAS, Sean Rainey currently serves as the Executive Director of
the North Hempstead Housing Authority (NHHA); and
WHEREAS, Prior to serving in this esteemed position, Sean Rainey was
the Director of Portfolio Management for Empire State Development
Corporation (ESDC) where he managed a $250,000,000 portfolio and oversaw
the marketing and sale of State surplus properties such as Wassaic
Psychiatric Center, Empire Specialty Steel and Creedmoor Psychiatric
Center; and
WHEREAS, After leaving ESDC, Sean Rainey joined the Nassau County
Department of Real Estate Planning and Development where he was the lead
person managing $100,000,000 in open space acquisition and the sale of
hundreds of Nassau County surplus properties; and
WHEREAS, Since joining NHHA in 2010, Sean Rainey has worked
tirelessly to change the philosophy of affordable housing within the
Town of North Hempstead by ensuring his residents are treated with the
upmost respect and live in a beautiful, clean and most importantly, safe
community; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he has worked with his Board to re-develop
Spinney Hill Homes and Pond View Homes into high quality housing which
are admired by all who visit them; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Sean Rainey, the North
Hempstead Housing Authority is currently building a 77 unit senior-only
development in Westbury, which is the first new housing authority
development in North Hempstead in over 25 years; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, the NHHA has upgraded all of its existing
housing and has recently received an award for the complete
redevelopment of Laurel Homes in Roslyn Heights; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Saint John's University, Sean Rainey resides
in East Norwich where he holds the position of Vice President for both
the East Norwich Civic Association and the Committee for the
Beautification of East Norwich; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Diane, and their
four sons, Brendan, Aidan, Colin and Quinn, who have all shown him love
and support and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Sean Rainey has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Sean Rainey, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sean Rainey upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Manhasset Great Neck Economic Opportunity Council,
Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sean Rainey.
