CONGRATULATING Dr. Julia Mortley upon the occasion
of her retirement after 33 distinguished years as an
educator in the New York City Department of
Education

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those
outstanding educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have
been instrumental in developing character and academic excellence in the
young people of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Dr. Julia Mortley upon the occasion of her retirement after
33 distinguished years as an educator in the New York City Department of
Education; and

WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be celebrated at an event held
in her honor on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Antun's in Queens, New York;
and

WHEREAS, Dr. Julia Mortley began her esteemed career in education in
1986, as a teacher at P.S. 191 in District 17 Brooklyn where she
transitioned from being a third grade teacher for eight years to being a
fourth grade teacher for three years; she also served as a Literacy
Specialist; and

WHEREAS, From 1999-2006, Dr. Julia Mortley was the Assistant
Principal in District 13 at P.S. 9 in Brooklyn; in this capacity, she
served the populations of P.S. 9, P.S. 256 and P.S. 305; she was later
promoted to Principal of Public School 305 - Dr. Peter Ray Elementary
School in 2006; she will retire from her career in education in June of
2019; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Julia Mortley is truly proud of her students, and
realizes their steady progress could not have been made without the
staff, parents, students and the community coming together as a village
to make a difference in the lives of its children; and

WHEREAS, Educators like Dr. Julia Mortley provide a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
young people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in
their future years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Julia Mortley has clearly had an enduring impact on the
youth of P.S. 305, the Dr. Peter Ray Elementary School, as well as on
the community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause
for her impressive dedication to others; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dr. Julia Mortley upon the occasion of her retirement after
33 distinguished years as an educator in the New York City Department of
Education; and to wish her continued success in all of her future
endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Julia Mortley.
