commemorating the Father's Day Treat event, and
paying tribute to this year's honorees on June 16,
2019

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commemorate
those events of historical significance which add strength, vigor and
inspiration to the cultural diversity and quality of life in the
communities of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the Father's Day Treat event, and to pay tribute to this
year's honorees; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion will be celebrated on Sunday, June
16, 2019, at Tropical Reflections Ballroom in Brooklyn, New York, with
Mouth Open Story Jumpout!, an evening of traditional Caribbean-American
comedic storytelling, classic Calypso singing, and folk performances;
and

WHEREAS, Entertainment will be provided by Richardo Keens-Douglas,
Lord Nelson, with acts like "Meh Lover" and Quake USA Fold Group, the
longest running Caribbean folk group in the Diaspora; and

WHEREAS, This year's honorees include: The Mighty Sparrow (Dr.
Slinger Francisco), Lord Nelson, Richardo Keens-Douglas, Derek Ventour,
Gentle Benjamin, Heron "Rocking J" Douglas, Hoplin Lambert of Lambert &
the Matadors, and Quake USA Cultural Organization; and

WHEREAS, Cultural traditions are so very important; whether it is
food, drink, literature, dance, music, or just fellowship, life is
simply better by celebrating the past and the present; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize
those important events which remind us of the rich and diverse heritage
of our great State and Nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Father's Day Treat event, and to pay tribute to this
year's honorees on June 16, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the aforementioned honorees and to the organizers of the
Father's Day Treat event.
