COMMENDING Sarah Lawrence College of Bronxville,
New York, upon the occasion of the Grand Opening
and Dedication of its Barbara Walters Campus Center
in the Fall of 2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those exemplary institutions of higher education within the
State of New York for their enduring commitment to the pursuit of
academic excellence; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Sarah Lawrence College of Bronxville, New York, upon the
occasion of the Grand Opening and Dedication of its Barbara Walters
Campus Center in the Fall of 2019; and

WHEREAS, As the first new building on the College's 45-acre campus
in more than a decade, the 32,000 square foot Barbara Walters Campus
Center will serve as a magnet for intellectual, cultural, and social
life; and

WHEREAS, Ideally located at the midpoint of the campus, the Barbara
Walters Campus Center will feature adaptable social and academic
gathering spaces, a venue suitable for both public and campus events,
lounges, dining facilities, and a flexible space exclusively for the use
of student clubs, activities, and collaborative work; and

WHEREAS, With its thoughtfully planned design, the building will be
a symbol and celebration of the importance of place and the natural
landscape with a focus on sustainability and environmental
responsibility; and

WHEREAS, Serving as a "front door" to the College, the Center will
proudly welcome its neighbors from the local community to share various
cultural experiences; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
colleges and universities which enhance the well-being and vitality of
their community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to
excellence certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sarah Lawrence College of Bronxville, New York, upon the
occasion of the Grand Opening and Dedication of its Barbara Walters
Campus Center in the Fall of 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sarah Lawrence College.
