HONORING Sal Citrano upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the
highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sal Citrano upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, In 1943, Sal Citrano enlisted in the United States Navy and
began his service as a Radioman first class; he was instrumental during
the invasions of Okinawa in the Pacific as well as Normandy in Europe;
and

WHEREAS, In this hallowed position, Sal Citrano was responsible for
decoding radio messages about enemy positions amongst other things and
reporting them to the commander; and

WHEREAS, Sal Citrano was stationed around the world with the United
States Navy, Including stops in: Guantanamo Bay, San Diego, Hawaii, the
Philippines, and Japan; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious career, Sal Citrano recieved
many high honors and designations including; Asiatic Pacific Campaign
Medal with a Purple Heart, European Campaign Medal, Navy Occupation
Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, as well as a World War II
Victory Medal; and

WHEREAS, After the war effort, Sal Citrano became a technical writer
for Grumman, writing manuals for aircrafts; and

WHEREAS, Sal Citrano and the love of his life Loretta, reside in
Farmingdale, New York, where together they have raised two beautiful
daughters; and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great Empire State must never forget the
courage with which these men and women served their country, and must
salute the bravery and heroism shown by our veterans; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Sal Citrano demonstrated his love for his country and merits forevermore
the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their services
and for their dedication to their communities, their State and their
Nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sal Citrano upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Sal Citrano.
