CONGRATULATING Katie Krafchik upon the occasion of
her designation as a U.S. Figure Skating Gold
Medalist by the Metropolitan Figure Skating Club
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of hard work, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
talented young athletes who distinguish themselves and their community
through outstanding athletic performance; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Katie Krafchik upon the occasion of her designation as a
U.S. Figure Skating Gold Medalist by the Metropolitan Figure Skating
Club; and
WHEREAS, Katie Krafchik, a 10-year-old ice skater from New Hyde
Park, New York, earned this rare distinction after passing her senior
moves test on December 5, 2019; just three percent of the roughly 40,000
annual completed tests are at the gold level; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, she received this esteemed honor after winning
a bronze medal and achieving a personal best at the Eastern Sectional
Singles Final on Saturday, November 16, 2019, in Hyannis, Massachusetts;
and
WHEREAS, Pouring years of effort and emotion into her most recent
medaling performance, she skated to a program dedicated to and inspired
by her late grandmother; and
WHEREAS, In January, Katie Krafchik will join the best of the best
in the United States at Nationals Camp, where the U.S. Skating
Federation will monitor her performance; and
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice; Katie Krafchik began figure
skating when she was just five years old, enrolling in group classes for
a year before beginning private bimonthly classes; and
WHEREAS, Now training six days a week with four hours on the ice
each day, Katie Krafchik has little free time, but when she is not
skating, she enjoys cooking herself gourmet breakfasts, playing with her
little sister and grandfather, and reading mystery novels; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her physical abilities, Katie Krafchik was
born with professionalism, attitude, intelligence, dedication and a
desire to be great; and
WHEREAS, The talent and success displayed by Katie Krafchik is due
in great part to the efforts of her coach, Igor Krokavec, a skilled and
inspirational mentor, respected for his ability to develop potential
into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Katie Krafchik, in achieving this high athletic honor, may
take just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of
excellence she brings to her family, friends, community and school; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Katie Krafchik, a
young woman and extraordinary athlete, recognizing the value of her
labors and the promise of her future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Katie Krafchik upon the occasion of her designation as a
U.S. Figure Skating Gold Medalist by the Metropolitan Figure Skating
Club; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Katie Krafchik.
