Senate Resolution No. 2345

COMMENDING the Great Neck Chinese Association upon
the occasion of hosting its Chinese New Year
Celebration on January 26, 2020

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those enduring organizations which faithfully devote their
resources and purposeful energies to improving the quality and dignity
of life in the communities they serve, and to preserving their cultural
heritage; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Great Neck Chinese Association upon the occasion of hosting
its Chinese New Year Celebration to be held at the Great Neck North
Middle School, on Sunday, January 26, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1995, the Great Neck Chinese Association (GNCA)
is a non-profit organization that serves the Great Neck Chinese
community; this year marks its 20th Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, GNCA's mission is HAPPY: H: help new Chinese residents to
integrate into the Great Neck community, A: advocate for the common good
for its members, P: promote understanding of its culture and its people,
P: promote community services and social involvement, and Y: yield a
harmonious and happy living environment for all in Great Neck; and

WHEREAS, GNCA serves its mission by engaging in the following
activities: works with Great Neck schools and community leaders to
promote better understanding and acceptance of Chinese culture and
Chinese residents; hosts social and fun activities to bring Chinese
community members together; organizes entertainments and educational
events to promote culture exchange with other communities; promotes
community services and provides resources to encourage social
involvement by its members; and provides a venue for its members to
network and exchange ideas and a platform for its members to interact
with other organizations, local leaders and the Great Neck public on
issues relating to the interest of the organization; and

WHEREAS, On January 25, 2020, in accordance with their calendar and
beliefs, Asian Americans will joyously usher in the Year of the Rat,
4718; and

WHEREAS, People born in the Year of the Rat are known to place a
great amount of value on family and to be content living a quiet and
peaceful life; and

WHEREAS, Those born under the sign of the Rat are quick thinkers,
clever, and hardworking, likely to gain wealth; and

WHEREAS, When working, those born under the sign of the Rat are able
to easily adapt to new environments, are very organized and are
successful in their fields; and

WHEREAS, GNCA welcomes all to partake in the celebration of the
Chinese New Year, and to join in the positive spirit which this event
brings to Asian Americans and the Great Neck community; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Great Neck Chinese Association upon the occasion of hosting
its Chinese New Year Celebration; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Great Neck Chinese Association.
