HONORING Shaun and Sandy McGuane upon the occasion
of retiring after many years of distinguished
service as coaches for the Central Square School
District

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instrumental in
developing character and athletic excellence in the young people of New
York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Shaun and Sandy McGuane upon the occasion of retiring after many years
of distinguished service as coaches for the Central Square School
District; they officially retired in June of 2019; and

WHEREAS, Shaun and Sandy McGuane have coached a combined 138 sports
seasons for the Central Square Redhawks, primarily for boys and girls
cross country, and the track and field program; and

WHEREAS, Married in 2010, this talented husband and wife coaching
team are also retired Central Square teachers; Shaun retired in 2019 as
a Physical Education teacher, and Sandy retired in 2017 as a Speech
Therapy teacher; and

WHEREAS, The McGuanes have devoted many years to coaching inclusive
athletic programs which boasted high participation rates, showing by
example that practice and hard work can bring both joy and personal
accomplishment; and

WHEREAS, Shaun McGuane began coaching the Central Square cross
country program in 1989; in addition to coaching cross country for three
decades, he coached 17 seasons of boys varsity track and field, eight
seasons of girls track and field, eight seasons of indoor track and
field, nine seasons of freshman boys basketball, five years of junior
varsity softball, and one season each of junior varsity boys basketball
and modified girls basketball; and

WHEREAS, Sandy McGuane, a graduate of Central Square, coached 22
seasons of girls cross country, 20 years of indoor track, and 19 years
of outdoor track; and

WHEREAS, Their many coaching accomplishments have included league
championships teams, Section 3 championships in girls track, boys cross
country and boys indoor track, and a Class AA title for boys indoor
track; and

WHEREAS, Shaun and Sandy McGuane, who, through their combined
efforts, have substantially influenced and made a lasting impression on
a generation of student athletes; they will be truly missed for their
continual professionalism and leadership; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those mentors who, throughout their illustrious careers,
supported the youth within the community by providing unwavering skills
and talents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Shaun and Sandy McGuane upon the occasion of retiring after many
years of distinguished service as coaches for the Central Square School
District, and to wish them continued success in all their future
endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Shaun and Sandy McGuane.
