COMMENDING the Yemeni American Merchants
Association upon the occasion of hosting its Second
Annual Gala

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes great pride in applauding
associations whose diligence and compassionate commitment help to
improve the quality of life of others; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Yemeni American Merchants Association upon the occasion of
hosting its Second Annual Gala; "2020 Being Counted: Taking the Mantle
of Leadership to Create a Better Future" on Saturday, February 1, 2020,
at LaGuardia Marriott, East Elmhurst, New York; and

WHEREAS, Yemini American Merchants Association (YAMA) is a
non-profit organization which was founded from the notably successful
Yemeni Bodega Strike in protest of the Executive Order Travel Ban on
February 2, 2017, at Brooklyn Borough Hall; and

WHEREAS, This esteemed organization seeks to educate and elevate
Yemini-American merchants and their families through education, and
business and social service support; and

WHEREAS, It is in the interest of New York State to recognize the
achievements made and to continue these efforts by promoting the
awareness and fostering the understanding of the Yemeni culture; and

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
outstanding community organizations which distinguish themselves in
serving the community and its residents, and which warrant special
recognition; and

WHEREAS, We commend the dedicated staff and administration of the
Yemeni American Merchants Association, who strive continually to educate
and support a vulnerable segment of our population; their compassion and
commitment makes a significant impact on the lives of many and
highlights the importance of this esteemed organization; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Yemeni American Merchants Association upon the occasion of
hosting its Second Annual Gala; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Yemeni American Merchants Association.
