HONORING Brittany Schiavone upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the National L'Oreal
Paris Women of Worth Award

WHEREAS, Individuals and organizations devoted to improving the
quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and
self-worth are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Brittany
Schiavone upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
National L'Oreal Paris Women of Worth Award; and

WHEREAS, L'Oreal Paris Women of Worth honors extraordinary women who
selflessly volunteer their time to serve their communities; the
signature philanthropic program embodies the L'Oreal Paris belief that
'Every Woman Is Worth It' by elevating women who find beauty in giving
back; Brittany Schiavone is one such individual; and

WHEREAS, Drawing on her own experiences as a woman with Down
syndrome, Brittany Schiavone, a 30-year-old from Huntington, New York,
founded Brittany's Baskets of Hope (BBoH), a non-profit organization
dedicated to bringing information, support and guidance to families
welcoming babies with Down syndrome into their lives; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Brittany Schiavone, this
vital organization delivers handmade baskets of baby items and
information about Down syndrome, including Brittany's own story, to
instill hope in the face of uncertainty; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception in October of 2016, BBoH has delivered
more than 800 baskets to families in 49 states across the country to
celebrate the birth of their babies; and

WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, Brittany's Baskets of Hope
is dedicated to encouraging all people with Down syndrome to stand in
their power and show the world what they're made of; and

WHEREAS, As the founder of BBoH, Brittany Schiavone is truly a
testament to the success of individuals living with Down syndrome, and
her story continues to help countless parents envision bright futures
for their children; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Brittany Schiavone, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Brittany Schiavone upon the occasion of her designation as

recipient of the National L'Oreal Paris Women of Worth Award; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Brittany Schiavone.
