HONORING Tommie D. Hill Sr. upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Chairman Award
by the Alpha Phi Alpha Senior Citizens Center on
February 8, 2020

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Tommie D. Hill Sr. upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Chairman Award by the Alpha Phi Alpha Senior Citizens Center to be
celebrated at its 10th Anniversary Valentine's Day Gala on Saturday,
February 8, 2020, at Antun's, Queens Village, New York; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1975, the Alpha Phi Alpha Senior Citizens
Center provides a multi-purpose facility and services for seniors in the
local community that will enhance their quality of life through its
nutrition, education and health programs; and

WHEREAS, Born in Montgomery, Alabama, and raised in Roosevelt Long
Island, New York, Tommie D. Hill Sr. is the second oldest of six
children; he received his education in the Roosevelt School system where
he excelled in football, baseball, and track; and

WHEREAS, Tommie D. Hill Sr. then began his collegate career at
Virginia Union University, earning degrees in Communication, Paralegal
Studies, and Criminal Justice; and

WHEREAS, As a combat veteran of the United States Navy, Tommie D.
Hill Sr. honorably served his country for 22 years in both active and
reserve duty, rising through the ranks to the esteemed position of Chief
Petty Officer; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished military career, Tommie D.
Hill Sr. protected civilian life and significantly contributed to the
establishment of safer societies around the world, as well as at home;
he also served in multiple conflicts, including Grenada, Panama, Persian
Gulf, Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi
Freedom; and

WHEREAS, Tommie D. Hill Sr. began his illustrious career with the
Nassau County Sheriff's Department as a Law Enforcement Officer; during
his tenure, he has worked diligently to prevent crime, restore peace and
provide safer environments for the residents of his community; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to his community, Tommie D. Hill Sr. has given
tirelessly of his time and energies to countless local organizations for
more than three decades; his love for service led him to pursue

membership in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., where he has been
recognized on a national level as a Veteran Service Officer; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, he is a member of the Board of Directors of
the Alpha Phi Alpha Senior Citizens Center and an active member of the
American Legion; in 2014 he established a yearly scholarship for a high
school senior in honor of his son, Tahj D. Hill; and

WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Tommie D.
Hill Sr. was recognized as the 2019 New York Association Chapters of
Alpha Brother of the Year; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his beautiful wife, Lisa, and
their three wonderful children, Nicole, Tommie Jr., and Tahj, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his many
achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Tommie D. Hill Sr. has
displayed throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Tommie D. Hill Sr., that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Tommie D. Hill Sr. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Chairman Award by the Alpha Phi Alpha Senior Citizens
Center; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Tommie D. Hill Sr.
