COMMENDING Barry R. Fertel, Esq. upon the occasion
of his retirement as New Rochelle City Councilman
after 14 years of distinguished service

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who are devoted to the welfare of their community and its
citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Barry R. Fertel, Esq. upon the occasion of his retirement as New
Rochelle City Councilman after 14 years of distinguished public service;
and

WHEREAS, For over three decades, Barry R. Fertel has represented
clients in New Rochelle, New York, and the New York City metropolitan
area; throughout his tenure, he has always strived to defend his
clients' legal rights and promote their interests, tried dozens of
cases, served as a court examiner in Westchester County, and worked with
a number of successful New York law firms; and

WHEREAS, Barry R. Fertel's firm specializes in education law, and
under his luminous leadership, it has helped many families and special
needs children find education which suits the child's best interests; he
and his staff have successfully represented students from elementary
school through graduate and professional schools when faced with
disciplinary proceedings, and has advised private and charter schools on
various issues; and

WHEREAS, Barry R. Fertel also practices real estate law,
representing clients across a broad spectrum of residential and
commercial property matters, and in civil litigation and appeals; and

WHEREAS, Devoted to both his profession and community, Barry R.
Fertel served on the New Rochelle Board of Education for 14 years;
during this time, he held the titles of President and Vice President;
and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Dr. Valerie Fertel,
and their three sons, Jeremy, Jason and Gregory, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and

WHEREAS, A man of true integrity, Barry R. Fertel leads by example;
he has served the citizens of New Rochelle with distinction, enthusiasm,
dedication and honor, and has overseen countless initiatives that have
made his community a better and stronger place to live; and

WHEREAS, For the past 14 years, Barry R. Fertel rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the city of New Rochelle, earning
the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate
blending of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that
demonstrated by Barry R. Fertel over a lifetime of sacrifice and
dedication to others; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Barry R. Fertel, Esq. upon the occasion of his retirement as New
Rochelle City Councilman after 14 years of distinguished public service,
and to wish him continued success in all of his future endeavors; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Barry R. Fertel, Esq.
