MOURNING the death of Lincoln Roosevelt James,
distinguished citizen and long-time leader in the
Caribbean-American community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln Roosevelt James of Brooklyn, New York, died on
January 1, 2020, at the age of 56; and

WHEREAS, Born in Antigua and Barbuda, Lincoln Roosevelt James was
the first born son of Eileen and Johnathan James and would soon be
joined by four younger siblings, Rowan, Alfred, Jason and Coleen; and

WHEREAS, In 1978, Lincoln Roosevelt James and his family moved to
Brooklyn, New York, in pursuit of a new life for the family; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from Prospect Heights High School in
Brooklyn, at age 19, Lincoln Roosevelt James went on to proudly serve
his country as a member of the United States Army; he was stationed in
Germany in 1982, and though he never participated in an active war, he
went to do special missions, namely in Somalia, Panama, and other places
around the world, completing four years of active duty and four years in
the Reserves; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln Roosevelt James distinguished himself in his
profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of his community; and

WHEREAS, Carving out a career for himself in real estate, Lincoln
Roosevelt James opened his own business, James Enterprise Realty, in the
1990s; he initially began working from his home, developing it into a
thriving career in a storefront close to home; and

WHEREAS, Lincoln Roosevelt James was extremely hardworking and a
very successful businessman, encouraging and empowering multiple novice
entrepreneurs to kick start their own business; and

WHEREAS, With a passion for traveling, Lincoln Roosevelt James was
on a trip to London, England, in 2001, when he met a woman named Kim;
after a long distance relationship ensued, the couple eventually married
in 2004, when Kim relocated to Brooklyn; in March of 2005, they became
parents when their son, Kameron was born and two years later, their
daughter, Keira arrived; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his father, Jonathan; his mother, Eileen;
and his brother, Jason; Lincoln Roosevelt James is survived by his
loving wife, Kim; two children, Kameron and Keira; two brothers, Rowan
and Alfred, and one sister, Coleen; five nephews, Johnathan, Jeremy,
Keyon, Austin and Jett; one niece, Aria; along with many beloved

Aunties, Ernestine, Yvonne, Edith; and Uncles, Robert and Joseph; and
countless cousins; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Lincoln Roosevelt James leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Lincoln Roosevelt James, distinguished citizen and
long-time member of the Caribbean-American community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Lincoln Roosevelt James.
