COMMEMORATING the 65th Anniversary of East Meadow
High School

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose
exemplary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate an enduring
pursuits of excellence in the education of the youth of the Empire
State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 65th Anniversary of East Meadow High School; and

WHEREAS, Located in East Meadow, New York, East Meadow High School
serves approximately 1,500 students each year, and provides high quality
direct educational support to its students, as evidenced by its low
(12:1) student to teacher ratio; and

WHEREAS, East Meadow High School has significant offerings in
extracurricular activities, with over 20 clubs and organizations for
students to choose from such as Art Club, Environmental Club, Key Club,
Model Congress and the Italian Honor Society; and

WHEREAS, Effectively preparing students for their future endeavors
in the workplace, in higher education, and as adult citizens, East
Meadow High School has a 98% graduation rate and high AP course
enrollment, as well as math and reading proficiencies well above the
state average; and

WHEREAS, With a history of outstanding performance in education,
East Meadow High School was ranked as one of the top 60 high schools in
New York State out of more than 1,000 schools in 2017-2018; and

WHEREAS, East Meadow High School reflects the cultural diversity of
its community, with significant Asian American and Hispanic/Latino
student populations; the non-white population at EMHS makes up almost
half of all students; and

WHEREAS, The hardworking and dedicated students at East Meadow High
School are truly committed to their community, volunteering countless
hours in local hospitals, community centers, nursing homes and more; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, many of its students possess strong talent in
music as well as a wide variety of sports, where they proudly wear the
"Jets" colors of royal blue and gold; and

WHEREAS, East Meadow High School has a plethora of notable alumni,
including actor Adam Busch, actress Annet Mahendru, Broadway playwright
Richard Greenburg, and NFL Linebacker Brandon Moore; and


WHEREAS, Under the visionary guidance of Principal Richard Howard,
East Meadow High School has continually demonstrated an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of educational programs and opportunities offered for the
benefit of its faculty and students as well as for the entire community;
and

WHEREAS, This success is steadfastly supported by Assistant
Principals Elizabeth Dowling, Christina Egan, and Drew Genoino, along
with Dean of Students William Brennan, the devoted members of the East
Meadow School District Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools
Kenneth A. Card Jr., and Assistant Superintendents Anthony Russo,
Patrick Pizzo and David Casamento; and

WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history, East Meadow
High School may look back with pride upon its humble beginnings, find
just satisfaction in its purposeful growth and hold true of purpose in
its dedication to serving the educational needs of its students; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 65th Anniversary of East Meadow High School, noting the
propriety of its goals, the constancy of its commitment and the
significance of its accomplishments; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Richard Howard, Principal, East Meadow High School, East
Meadow, New York.
