COMMENDING the Eastern Queens Alliance, Inc. upon
the occasion of hosting its Idlewild Park Wetland
and Wildlife Preserve Benefits Award Luncheon on
April 18, 2020
WHEREAS, Organizations which serve the interests of the people of
this Empire State merit the commendation of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Eastern Queens Alliance, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting
its Idlewild Park Wetland and Wildlife Preserve Benefits Award Luncheon
on Saturday, April 18, 2020; and
WHEREAS, The Eastern Queens Alliance is a coalition of civic
associations that joined forces in 1989 to address problems, issues and
concerns that defied boundaries and plagued all or most of the
communities in Queens, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since 2003, one of the main projects of the Eastern Queens
Alliance has been the preservation and restoration of the wetlands in
Idlewild Park Preserve, an approximately 225 acre natural Forever Wild
site located just north of JFK Airport that is not only Head of the
Jamaica Bay, but serves as a major source of fresh water to the bay; and
WHEREAS, The Idlewild Park Reserve is home to many rare species such
as the snowy egret, ospreys, diamond-back terrapins and fiddler crabs;
and
WHEREAS, One of the main goals of the Eastern Queens Alliance, Inc.
is to continue to educate all residents about the importance and
ecological benefits of Idlewild Park Preserve and the Jamaica Bay
Watershed, as well as the environment in general; and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, the Eastern Queens Alliance
will continue to unify, organize, mobilize and utilize the talents and
potentials of all of the residents, civics, neighborhood associations,
businesses, clergy and service providers in the area in order to bring
about self-determination by acting in concert on mutual concerns and
issues; and
WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out the aforementioned mission,
the Eastern Queens Alliance has demonstrated the value of engaging with
the community to handle these important issues, and are more than
deserving of the highest praise from this Legislative Body; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Eastern Queens Alliance, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting
its Idlewild Park Wetland and Wildlife Preserve Benefits Award Luncheon;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Eastern Queens Alliance, Inc.
