HONORING Fire Chief Dale Herman upon the occasion
of his retirement after 34 years of distinguished
service to the City of Watertown Fire Department

WHEREAS, Citizens across our State and Nation are inspired by and
indebted to our noble firefighters who exhibit courage and bravery every
day in the course of their duties; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Fire Chief
Dale Herman upon the occasion of his retirement after 34 years of
distinguished service to the City of Watertown Fire Department; he will
officially retire on February 28, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Dale Herman joined the City of Watertown Fire Department in
January of 1986, beginning his illustrious career as a firefighter at
the former Arsenal Street Fire Station; and

WHEREAS, This respected firefighter rose through the ranks of the
Department; in 1995, he was promoted to Captain, before assuming the
position of Battalion Chief in 1999, and then being named to the
esteemed position of Fire Chief on August 10, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his career, which spanned more than three
decades, Fire Chief Dale Herman put his life on the line in an effort to
protect the safety of others, always working diligently to protect his
community and its residents from fire and other dangers; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude
to those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility
their own by serving as firefighters; and

WHEREAS, In retirement, Fire Chief Dale Herman plans on remaining in
the Watertown area with his wife, Patricia, along with his other family
members, and will continue to promote fire safety by teaching fire
training courses for the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, In his official acts, Fire Chief Dale Herman was governed
by a keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human
problems; during his tenure with the City of Watertown Fire Department,
he truly earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Fire Chief Dale Herman upon the occasion of his retirement after
34 years of distinguished service to the City of Watertown Fire
Department, recognizing the significant, positive impact he has had on
the City of Watertown and the safety of its residents; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Fire Chief Dale Herman.
